Back Story
The world was ending.
Not only was the climate's natural change, merely sped up with human interference, killing off many living things, flora and fauna, but a major war had broken out over the remaining resources. It was difficult to tell between who. Alliances were broken and reformed, spies turned into double-agents, enemies were fighting side-by-side out of sheer necessity, and everyone was torn on whether to use nuclear power on their enemies or not.
During this time, people were desperate. Even within "alliances" there was turmoil, soldiers and civilians alike killing each other for mere rations. Everything was chaos.
The war had killed off so many, the survival of the human species was called into question. Sworn into secrecy, the world's top scientists, guarded by top-notch military, were grouped for one reason only: the survival of human kind. Their goal: to create human chimeras that could stand the harshest of conditions to power through tough times such as this.
The first experiments failed miserably. Those that survived for more than a few weeks were horribly disfigured, and needed constant attention to keep their heart beating. But one mistake led to their only hope.
It was a mix of human and polar bear DNA. At that time, the experiments ranged from injecting foreign DNA into humans, full0grown and adolescent, to fertilizing human eggs with animal sperm and vice-versa. In this case, it was the product of a human mother and a polar bear father. It came earlier than expected, killing the mother during surgery and nearly dying itself. When it was said to have an expected life-span of a little less than a year, due to horrible mutations that only burdened it, one of the patients, a woman regularly receiving the DNA of a bird, took pity on the infant and took it under her "wing," the term being taken somewhat more seriously in this case.
It was a hermaphrodite, but from then on, was known as a "she," under the name Kola. Under her new surrogate mother, Kola grew up to be a full 15 years old, her metabolism all over the chart. During that time, virtually nothing was accomplished and the war raged on. When one of her hormone spikes hit, she barely managed to sing (as she couldn't speak. Her lungs could barely take any air, much less use it for speech) that she wanted to be a mother. After much deliberation and insisting on Kola's end, her surrogate agreed. Kola was scheduled for artificial insemination of another polar bear within the month.
Luckily, by the time she was with child, her hormonal high hadn't worn off and she was just as willing as she had been when she made the decision. Unfortunately, that same buzz, as well as her inadequate anatomy, made pregnancy much harder on her than should have been acceptable. Everyone that cared for her insisted that she abort the child before they both died. But she refused, riding through the pregnancy until birth. But even then. she was bedridden for most of the passing months, getting weaker and weaker every time she got up and tried to do something other than stare at the ceiling.
Kola's child came early, just as she had. In fact, most of her child's birth resembled her own. Major complications, requiring surgery, and resulting in the mother's death. Kola died mere hours after surgery. Pregnancy had taken to much out of her to survive birth.
What came afterward, however, was miraculous. Not only was the baby alive, but it was stabilized out of the in and out comatose state normal in infants of mixed DNA in little over two days.
Kola's child, though with a few hormonal imbalances, was female, and thus named with her mother in mind, Kila.
Kila had unhealthy mutations of her own, such as acute asthma and myostatin, among others, most of which were worse. But according to records, Kila was a full 30% healthier than other other infants with mixed DNA. Some thought it was luck, others thought it was a fluke, and most of the rest believed it was both. But enough were convinced that was a breakthrough that studies began on Kila to see what made her so healthy.
When nothing was found besides a different balance between the human and animal chromosomes, they risked having her bear a child of her own.
The pregnancy, yet another artificial insemination, was nearly as hard as Kola's, but both mother and child lived through it and made a full recovery. And better yet, the child had even better health than Kila. With every generation, the chromosomal imbalance was sorting itself out.
However, to construct a steady pattern, they needed more examples. Kila was instructed to bear more children, being careful to keep her health steady. Very carefully, she gave birth to a total of 15 children before her body could go no more. She didn't die, but miscarriages and stillbirths became the norm, so they stopped attempting.
Most of Kila's children had crippling health defects that didn't result in much other than contributing to the data pattern. This pattern was studied and attempted further through the generations that followed. All other testing halted so the entire staff's focus could go to Kola's blood line.
The final result was a complete success.
The latest in the line was a male, with the best of humans and bears both. He was susceptible to certain diseases, both the pros far outweighed the cons. Testing on other DNA mixes began immediately.
That's where you come in.

Chimeras
Arturo (Xenri the Admin)
The result of Kola's line, a large polar bear chimera, male and at age 32. He is somewhat top heavy, with very broad shoulders and a large rib cage. His face is elongated, resembling that of a bear, teeth, ears, and all, and his hands are large, like their paws. He is covered in white insulating fur and muscular throughout. Though his mouth is shaped differently than a human's and growling and roaring comes more naturally to him, he can talk just fine, albeit with a strange accent.
Flyta (Xenri the Admin)
As the genetics mixing of cheetahs and humans are still under development, she is not yet the final result, but somewhat close to it. She 25, sleek, and thin as a Whippet. Her tail is somewhat short and the rest of her body is still a little more human than cheetah, her hands and femur shortened, her feet and teeth elongated. Her ears have changed to full rotating form, but the rest of her face barely looks feline. Orange and black-spotted fur is all over her back, reaching down her shoulders and legs, while her black human hair is cut short in a pixie style. She always moves in a light gate, handling everything she touches daintily, unless she is biting or scratching.
Piper (Xenri the Admin)
Piper is an early mix of human and brown bat. At 13, she is small and fragile, a skeletal mutation always having her curled around herself. Her small eyes are completely black and overly sensitive to light, so she always keeps them closed. Her hearing is excellent with her ears larger than average and sticking out. While her legs are small and widely set, her arms and hands are long and lanky. However, a tight, extremely sensitive webbing under her arm that attaches to her abdomen keeps her from moving much, as it is painful for her to pull it taunt. Her voice is high-pitched, and if she talks loudly, gives one a headache after a while, especially herself. She has fuzzy brown fur all over her, especially on her head, where it is shoulder-length and pulled back with clips in an attempt to keep it out of her face. She cannot cut it, as her body releases heat quickly and she needs all the insulation she can get, which is why she usually wears a long, heavy shawl everywhere.
Alla (repolover153)
A female cat chimera at 14, she has soft violet eyes and blonde hair. Her smile is soft and she can't speak very well. She's thin and short and a little scrawny. She has a cut down her arm, and you'll often find her on her own, rubbing up and down her arm with a small smile on her face.
She's a bit of a loner, but always wanting to make a friend.

Maddie
Maddie is 44 and from a small mountain town in Switzerland. She is fluent is 4 languages (English, Swiss, German, French, and variations of), dismissing it since three of the four were all spoken in her country, most of the time mixed. She has light, alpine skin and dark brown curly hair, pulled back into a low ponytail. She goes through the facility, checking on chimeras in their rooms whenever she gets the chance. She specializes in human and animal behavior, usually conducting experiments in that category.

The facility
Almost everything is indoors.
- The staff of the facility keep careful watch of the chimeras and their behavior. They will know very quickly if a chimera is sick, in heat, going through puppetry, or pregnant, and will just as quickly decide what to do about the situation. Virtually every time, the chimera's health is priority.
- So if a chimera is sick, they will do their best to heal it. They will given a solitary room, so whatever it's caught doesn't spread, with constant surveillance. They will have a specialized vet in their staff come over once to identify the chimera's ailment, and several other times for follow-ups and to help the staff. Meanwhile, the chimera will be fed it's normal diet with its medicine ground into the food. When it seems it is healthy again, it will be washed thoroughly and giving an equally arrant check-up. If the chimera is healthy again, it is put back into its normal testing schedule.
- If a chimera is going through puberty, it is given a solitary room, as it can be easily aggravated and hurt others. It's testing schedule is lightened, as all the experiments can stunt it's growth.
If a chimera is in heat, it is given a separate room. If there are no others of it's species of the opposite sex, it will be artificially inseminated with the DNA of the animal that is already in its genes. If there is a member of its species of the opposite sex, it will be given the choice to either mate with the other, or be artificially inseminated with their DNA. If there is multiple members of the same species of the opposite sex, they will be given the choice to either mate with or be artificially inseminated with the DNA of any of the opposite sex of their choice. - When a chimera is pregnant, the female stays in the room she had been in when they were in heat. If they request it, the male of her choice can stay with her in the same room. She is kept under similar conditions as a chimera going through puberty, as hormonal imbalance makes the cases similar. Staff is only present during birth, in case there are complications. Otherwise, the chimera is left relatively alone during birth, unless the male is present.
- Testing could consist of anything, be is blood work, how it reacts to certain medicines, or how it interacts with others. Unless it is the later, the chimera is usually alone during experiments.
- When not testing, the chimeras can mingle anywhere in the facility. There is also a series of climate controlled spaces outside for the chimeras to go. Note that a chimera should not be in an area that has a climate they cannot live in for any extended period of time. Humans can go there, too, if the humans and chimeras want to meet.
